About Yangarra Estate Vineyard
Yangarra Estate Vineyard sits in the elevated north-eastern corner of McLaren Vale, in the Blewitt Springs area. The estate has become one of Australia’s benchmark names for Grenache and southern Rhône varieties, with a single-vineyard focus and a strong commitment to organic and biodynamic farming. The wines are expressive, savoury and textural, showing the freshness and detail that can come from McLaren Vale when vineyard health comes first.
Yangarra’s modern story is closely tied to the late Peter Fraser, who was winemaker and general manager from 2000 to 2025 and helped shape the estate’s reputation for world-class Grenache and Rhône-style wines. In the vineyard, Michael Lane has played a major role in the estate’s biodynamic farming and precision viticulture. Together, that vineyard-and-cellar partnership helped establish Yangarra as one of McLaren Vale’s most distinctive producers.

Where Is Yangarra From?
Yangarra is based in Blewitt Springs, in the elevated north-eastern corner of McLaren Vale, South Australia. This part of the region is prized for sandy soils, old vines, natural freshness and a more fragrant expression of warm-climate red wine. The site gives Yangarra’s wines their signature mix of red fruit, dried herbs, savoury spice and fine structure.
Organic, Biodynamic and Regenerative Farming
Yangarra is certified organic and biodynamic, with farming centred on soil health, biodiversity and long-term vineyard resilience. The estate is planted to southern Rhône varieties, while a significant portion of the property is preserved as native vegetation. This approach supports wines that are less about heavy winemaking and more about vineyard expression.
What Makes Yangarra Different?
Yangarra is not trying to make every wine style. The focus is clear: southern Rhône varieties grown on one special McLaren Vale estate. That discipline gives the range a strong identity, especially in Grenache-based wines that combine fragrance, savoury depth and beautifully handled tannins.
What Is Yangarra Known For?
Yangarra is best known for Grenache, GSM blends and textural Rhône-style whites. The reds tend to show red cherry, wild strawberry, dried herbs, spice and fine tannins, while the whites can be savoury, layered and mineral-edged. Across the range, the wines have a refined, vineyard-driven quality rather than an overly polished or heavily oaked style.
Michelle’s Top 3 Yangarra Wines to Try
These three bottles show Yangarra’s biodynamic McLaren Vale range beautifully — a savoury, textural Rhône white, a vibrant Grenache-led field blend and a benchmark old-vine Grenache from 1946 bush vines.
- Yangarra Roussanne — a layered, savoury Rhône white with lemon curd, quince, jasmine, almond and spice. Medium-bodied, textural and food-friendly, with a dry saline finish.
- Yangarra Circle Field Blend — a Grenache-led red blend with wild strawberry, red cherry, dried herbs, subtle spice and fine tannins. Bright, juicy and lovely with a light chill.
- Yangarra Old Vine Grenache — a perfumed, serious Grenache from 1946 bush vines, showing rose petal, wild strawberry, red cherry, orange rind and exceptional tannins.
Why We Love Yangarra
We love Yangarra because it shows how elegant and expressive McLaren Vale can be when biodynamic farming, old vines and thoughtful winemaking come together. These are wines with depth, but also lift and detail. For customers who love Grenache, savoury reds or premium biodynamic wine, Yangarra is one of the names to know.
Food & Cuisine Pairing Ideas
Yangarra reds are beautiful with Mediterranean food, roast lamb, mushroom dishes, grilled eggplant, spiced chicken, charcuterie and slow-cooked tomato-based dishes. The whites suit roast chicken, seafood, vegetable tarts, richer salads and gently spiced dishes. The savoury, herbal detail in the wines makes them especially versatile at the table.
Who Will Enjoy These Wines?
Yangarra is ideal for drinkers who enjoy biodynamic wines with polish, texture and a clear sense of place. It suits Grenache lovers, Rhône blend fans and anyone looking for McLaren Vale wines that lean towards perfume, savoury detail and finesse rather than sheer weight. If you enjoy expressive, food-friendly reds with fine tannins, Yangarra is a beautiful fit.
