Salena

Salena Estate is owned by Bob and Sylvia Franchitto. Based in South Australia's picturesque Riverland district, a viticultural region that is envied for its abundant sunshine, they have the benefit of near perfect weather conditions to craft their wines. Bob is single-mindedly focused on achieving exceptional varietal flavour and character in his wines. This winemaking philosophy has borne results; with every wine the company has produced having been awarded at least one medal at an Australian or International wine show.

"Our vineyard plantings are of fairly significant size, at 208 hectares (520 acres). Varieties grown include Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Chardonnay, Colombard, Semillon and Riesling."

"In line with world-wide trends, the company endeavours to utilise a 'minimalist intervention' approach to weed and pest control. In fact, such is our commitment to this philosophy, that we are converting our vineyard management regimes to totally organic practices."

"The Organic range of wines was introduced in 2007 and is a result of the company's observation that there is an increasing awareness of health issues and a desire for greater choice from consumers. To satisfy a perceived demand for organic wines, Salena Estate undertook modification of its vineyard management systems to organic practices. Salena Estate is now certified as a producer and bottler of organic products. These wines have found show success and ready acceptance in the marketplace because their taste and flavour profiles have in no way been diminished compared to their traditionally produced siblings."
