At Yangarra, they take their commitment to the environment seriously. The vineyard is both certified organic and biodynamic. These practices go beyond mere buzzwords—they shape the very essence of the wines. Organic farming ensures that no synthetic chemicals touch the vines, allowing the grapes to express their purest potential. Biodynamics, on the other hand, involves a holistic approach, considering the vineyard as an interconnected ecosystem. The Keystone Variety: Grenache
Grenache reigns supreme at Yangarra. Their bush-vine Grenache is the heart and soul of the estate. Why Grenache? Because it thrives in the Mediterranean-like climate of McLaren Vale. The combination of rare geologies, moderate altitude, abundant sunshine, and cool evening breezes creates the perfect canvas for this grape variety. Yangarra’s Grenache vines—some of them ancient—dig their roots deep into the sandy soils, yielding fruit with intensity and finesse.

Winning Wine of the Year isn’t a predictable path. When the tasting team sits down to judge thousands of wines, they do so blindly. No preconceptions, no labels—just pure sensory exploration. Each wine has to make it through the rigorous stages, discussions, and debates, defying the odds. It’s a story of passion, soil, and the magic that happens when vines meet skilled hands.
High Sands Grenache 2016: Scoring 99 points in 2020, this remarkable wine stole the show, with the comment “This is the king of Australian grenache, and is not to be undertaken lightly.” We have the 2019 vintage available, which scored 97 points.
Old Vine Grenache 2021: Fast-forward to 2024, and lightning strikes again. The Old Vine Grenache 2021 takes centre stage, capturing hearts and palates. Also, receiving huge acclaim was their 2021 Estate Shiraz - the TOP RATED SHIRAZ with 97 points. Ahh, the Shiraz! From the sandy soils of Blewitt Springs, this elegant wine emerges.
