Yangarra Circle Field Blend 2024: Tasting Notes

It opens with wild strawberry and red cherry, a flutter of dried herbs and subtle spice, then settles into a juicy, medium-bodied palate with fine tannins and a gentle, mineral savouriness. Dry, bright and smooth, it’s built for Mediterranean plates, picnic rugs and any night you want a red that feels fresh rather than weighty.

Tasting Notes

Lifted red-fruit aromatics — wild strawberry, red cherry and a faint floral note — with dried herbs and a touch of savoury spice. The palate is juicy and bright, shaped by fine tannins and a subtle mineral edge that keeps it composed. It finishes dry, smooth and fresh, with just enough rustic charm to make it feel at home with food.

Winemaking

Co-fermented as a true field blend from estate-grown fruit, a method that layers variety character naturally: Grenache brings fragrance and supple fruit, Carignan and Mourvèdre add savoury structure, while Counoise and Cinsault lift perfume and freshness. The aim is transparency and drinkability — minimal heaviness, plenty of energy.

Vineyard & Vintage

From Yangarra’s biodynamically farmed single vineyard in Blewitt Springs, a higher, sandy-soil zone of McLaren Vale known for refined, aromatic Grenache. In 2024, the blend leans into bright fruit and refreshment, making it an ideal “light chill” red for warmer nights.

Why We Love It

Because it’s the kind of red that makes hosting easy: it’s vibrant, food-flexible and beautifully balanced. There’s enough detail and savoury structure to keep it interesting, yet the whole thing stays silky and approachable. Keep it slightly cool, serve it with Mediterranean dishes, and you’ll understand why “field blend” can be both serious and fun.

Food Pairing

Made for Mediterranean-style meals: lamb, grilled sausages, roasted vegetables, tomato-based pastas and pizza, plus anything with herbs, olive oil and a little char. The bright fruit and gentle tannins also make it an excellent match for spiced dishes without heat overload.

Mood or occasion to match this wine…

The “we’re eating outside” red. Chill it lightly, pour generous glasses, and let it sit happily alongside a big salad, grilled bits, and a bowl of olives. It has the freshness to start early and the structure to stay interesting once dinner lands.

Cellaring

Best enjoyed young for its bright fruit and energetic shape, but it will drink well over the next 3–5 years if you like a slightly more savoury, settled profile.

FAQ

What does Yangarra Circle Field Blend taste like?

Wild strawberry and red cherry, dried herbs and subtle spice, finishing dry and fresh with fine tannins and a savoury mineral edge.

What is a “field blend”?

A field blend is when multiple grape varieties are grown together and harvested and fermented together (co-fermented), rather than being made as separate wines and blended later. It can create a naturally integrated, layered style — especially when the varieties are chosen to complement each other.

Should I serve this red chilled?

A light chill works beautifully (15–20 minutes in the fridge). It lifts the aromatics, keeps the palate fresh, and makes the wine feel especially vibrant with food.

Is it sweet or dry?

Dry, with bright fruit and a clean finish.

Is it biodynamic and vegan?

Yes — it’s certified biodynamic and organic, and vegan-suitable.

Who will love it most?

If you enjoy Grenache, bright red blends, or lighter, more fragrant reds you can chill, this is an easy favourite — especially for Mediterranean dinners and relaxed gatherings.
