Bright purple‑red in the glass, this Puritan Shiraz bursts with aromas of raspberry, boysenberry and blueberry, layered with violets and a gentle hint of spice. The palate is medium‑bodied and super juicy, with a rush of red and blue fruits, soft tannins and a refreshing, moreish finish.

Winemaking

Certified organic Shiraz is fermented in open fermenters with gentle pump‑overs, sees no oak and is bottled early with no added preservatives to preserve fruit purity.

Tasting Notes for Battle of Bosworth Puritan Shiraz (No Added Preservative) from the Winery

‘Puritan’ is  young, fresh, unoaked and preservative free. We pick it young, ferment it in open vats and bottle it immediately once it has finished fermentation.  Puritan is fresh and juicy with notes of red and black berries. Vibrant and delicious.

A complex nose replete with violets and a plethora of red and blue fruits: boysenberry, blackberry, blueberry, hints of lavender seaspray, all contained with a medium body and nice structured tannins. Puritan has been made to enjoy young and fresh.

Vintage

Initially 2024 was a typical warm, dry season then became wet and windy as sub-tropical weather systems pushed south in December and January before returning to a warm and dry season. It was colder than average from budburst to flowering, then windy and cold during flowering which extended this phase of grape development. We had a wet and windy December. We then had a turnaround, with a dry end of season – a few hot days in early February and then March was terrific for ripening wine grapes; warm temperatures during the day and cooler temperatures at night

Winemaking

Puritan is a young, vibrant early drinking red wine, inspired by the ‘vino Joven’ style of Spanish red wines. We pick the Shiraz when it is flavour and sugar ripe then crush it and ferment it in small open vessels. We do twice daily pumpovers, to gently coax out flavour, tannin and colour from the skins. Once fermentation has finished the Puritan goes into stainless steel tanks where it undergoes MLF (Malolactic Fermentation or ‘malo’).

Once through ‘malo’ Puritan is bottled immediately without the addition of any preservative (sulphites/ preservative/ sulphur dioxide). Puritan doesn’t spend any time at all in oak.
