GrapesGrenache
Shining pale salmon pink in colour, this elegant rose is bursting with citrus, red fruit and musky hints on the nose. On the palate there are delicate rose hip and strawberry flavours, juicy with a crisp dry finish.
From dry-grown bush vine Grenache that is is picked early in the season to capture the freshness and crisp acidity. A quality hand-crafted wine.
Tasting Notes for Yangarra Grenache Rose 2021 from the Winery
The grapes were sourced from a combination of bush vines that were planted in 2009 (Blocks 7 and 13) and 1946 (Block 25) on our single vineyard estate. The fruit was hand-picked over three separate dates; 3rd, 11th and 12th March (flower days). As much as we pick on sugar/acid balance, and importantly physiological characters, we also consider the biodynamic calendar where possible, with fruit days and flower days being the most desirable for harvest, and root days avoided.
VINTAGE SUMMARY
We had a very favourable 2021 growing season with good winter rains, a mild flowering and fruit set period, and continued spring rainfall which ensured a healthy canopy. The yields showed a good balance between vine vigour and moderate berry size. The ripening period that began late January was very cool, with some welcome rainfall in mid-February. This delayed harvest, and with the cold nights and mild sunny days of March, we were pleased with the resulting fruit ripeness and intensity. The freshness and bright natural acidity of the fruit were a real feature of this vintage.
WINEMAKING
We hand-picked the grapes early and whole berry pressed in our basket press just as if we were making a white wine, to avoid too much colour extraction. We allowed a native fermentation, a cool fermentation tank, followed with lees maturation and stirring for 5 months. Bottled August 2021.

Translucent pink hue. Aromas of cherry blossom, ginger tea and young blueberries. The palate shows sweet stone fruit, nectarine and blue plum. The texture is a pleasingly chalky, a light to medium-bodied rosé, with crunchy acidity and a refreshing, dry finish.
90 Points Ned Goodwin Halliday Wine Companion 2020 Vintage
Hand picked, whole-bunch basket-pressed and fermented wild before some lees stirring for 5 months. A bright coral. Aromas of poached strawberry, orange zest, thyme and other dried herb. Weighted just right to be thirst slaking and dangerously drinkable, attesting to the exciting ascendancy of rosé in Australia.
