Tasting Notes
Lemon curd and fresh green apple lead the aroma, joined by ripe pear and a light savoury note. The palate is dry and medium-bodied, with gentle creaminess through the middle rather than overt butter or oak. Bright citrus-edged acidity lifts the orchard fruit and carries the wine towards a clean, refreshing and food-friendly finish.
Winemaking
Made without the addition of sulphur dioxide, this Chardonnay requires careful fruit handling and controlled winery conditions to protect freshness and purity. Tamburlaine uses bio-protection and precise oxygen management when producing its no-added-sulphur wines. The finished style focuses on clean citrus and orchard fruit, soft texture and bright acidity rather than strong oak influence.
Vineyard & Vintage
The fruit is sourced from Tamburlaine’s certified-organic vineyards in the Central Ranges of New South Wales. Organic farming excludes synthetic herbicides, pesticides and fertilisers, supporting healthier soils and more resilient vineyard ecosystems. The 2026 wine is shaped as a youthful, fruit-focused Chardonnay, with freshness and clarity prioritised over extended maturation.
Why We Love It
It gives you the satisfying texture of Chardonnay without becoming rich, woody or heavy. The lemon curd and pear bring softness, while crisp green apple and bright acidity keep every sip clean and refreshing. It is also a reliable choice for drinkers specifically seeking an organic, vegan and preservative-free white.
Food Pairing
This Chardonnay suits delicately creamy dishes, fresh herbs, grilled vegetables and simply prepared seafood. Its acidity cuts through sauces and oils, while its soft texture works particularly well with mushrooms, roast vegetables and mild cheeses.

Producer
Tamburlaine is an independent organic wine producer working across the Hunter Valley and Orange regions of New South Wales. Established in 1966, the winery was purchased in 1985 by a group led by winemaker Mark Davidson, who developed its Contemporary Organics philosophy. Tamburlaine began converting vineyards to organic farming in the late 1990s and now operates certified-organic vineyards under annual independent auditing. The winery has also removed animal-derived fining proteins from almost all production and developed specialist no-added-sulphur techniques, including bio-protection and careful oxygen management, to produce clean, stable and expressive preservative-free wines.

FAQ
What does Tamburlaine Preservative Free Chardonnay 2026 taste like?
It tastes of lemon curd, green apple and ripe pear, with a light savoury undertone. The palate is softly creamy through the middle before finishing dry, bright and clean.
Is this Chardonnay dry or sweet?
This is a dry Chardonnay with no obvious sweetness. Ripe pear and lemon-curd flavours provide fruit softness, but crisp acidity keeps the finish refreshing and tidy.
How full-bodied and oaky is the wine?
It is medium-bodied, with enough creamy texture to remain satisfying without becoming heavy. Oak influence is very low, so citrus and orchard fruit remain the main focus.
How should I serve Tamburlaine Preservative Free Chardonnay?
Serve it at approximately 8–10°C in a standard white-wine glass. Avoid serving it excessively cold, as a few minutes in the glass will reveal more pear, lemon curd and creamy texture.
Does this wine need decanting?
No decanting is required. Pour it directly from the bottle and allow it to open naturally in the glass for five to ten minutes.
Does this Chardonnay contain preservatives or sulphites?
No sulphur dioxide has been added during winemaking, so it qualifies as a No Added Preservative wine. Tiny amounts of sulphites can still occur naturally during fermentation, even when none are added.
Is Tamburlaine Preservative Free Chardonnay vegan friendly?
Yes, it is vegan friendly. Tamburlaine uses plant-based alternatives rather than traditional animal-derived fining agents for this wine.
What food pairs well with it?
Try it with grilled fish, roast chicken, creamy mushroom pasta, vegetable risotto or mild soft cheese. Vegan matches include roast cauliflower with tahini, cashew pasta and pumpkin risotto.
How long can I cellar it, and how long does it last after opening?
Drink it young, ideally now or within one to two years of purchase, as no-added-preservative wines are not intended for long-term ageing. Once opened, reseal it immediately, refrigerate it and enjoy within one to two days.
Who will love this wine?
It will suit drinkers who enjoy fresh, lightly creamy Chardonnay but prefer minimal oak and a clean, citrus-led finish. It is also an excellent option for anyone seeking certified-organic, vegan and preservative-free wine without sacrificing flavour.
How does it compare with a traditional buttery Chardonnay?
This wine is brighter and lighter than a strongly oaked, buttery Chardonnay. Expect green apple, lemon and pear rather than vanilla, toast and pronounced butter, with a cleaner and more refreshing finish.
