Tasting Notes for Spring Seed Poppy Pinot Grigio from the Winery

Poppy is light and fresh, with a gentle hint of nashi pear and citrus, and a clean smooth palate and finish. It is superb when served chilled as an aperitif or with light pasta dishes and mild cheeses.

Spring Seed

A light, crisp variety that produces a fine effect in the glass. Poppy Pino Grigio has a gentle nose of pear and citrus with a smooth silk-like texture, makes for a highly appealing style. 

Culture - Spring Seed Poppy Pinot Grigio may be taken as an aperitif with friends or enjoyed with seafood, light pasta dishes or mild cheeses. 

Spring Seed Wines are made from grapes lovingly grown in our family’s organic vineyard, located in the premium wine region of McLaren Vale, South Australia. The vineyard was established in the early 1970’s by Peter and Anthea Bosworth, and is now owned and run by their son Joch, who began the conversion to organic viticulture in 1995. The vines are fully certified ‘A’ grade organic by Australian Certified Organic, a process that takes four years and involves yearly audits and random sampling of produce.

The Spring Seed Wine labels are unashamedly inspired by vintage flower seed packets created at the turn of the last century. The colour, clarity and beauty of the original seed packets are quite remarkable. We have chosen the Poppy, Alyssum and Sweet William flower images for our Pinot Grigio labels.

​Winemaking

Don’t let winemakers tell you that their job is hard. Nothing could be easier than making Poppy: Pick the grapes nice and early (we like a lighter style of Grigio here at BoB and Spring Seed wines) press off the skins, cool ferment in stainless steel tanks and then bottle under screwcap (no time in oak for our Poppy). It’s that easy.
