Tasting Notes

Pale and bright in the glass, this Pinot Grigio opens with white flowers, nashi pear, pear skin and citrus. The palate is dry, light-bodied and crisp, with lemon and lime freshness, a smooth silk-like texture and a clean finish. There is no oak influence, so the wine stays pure, fresh and easy to pour.

Winemaking

Poppy is made in the lighter Pinot Grigio style, inspired by the fresh wines of Friuli in north-east Italy rather than the richer Pinot Gris style of Alsace. The grapes are picked early and at night to protect delicate aromatics and natural acidity. The fruit is pressed off skins, cool fermented in stainless steel and bottled under screwcap without oak maturation, keeping the pear, citrus and floral characters clear.

Vineyard & Vintage

The fruit comes from the Bosworth family’s certified organic vineyard in McLaren Vale, South Australia. The vineyard was established in the early 1970s and converted to organic viticulture from 1995, with vines fully certified A-grade organic by Australian Certified Organic. The 2025 release is 13.0% ABV, dry, with approximately 2 g/L residual sugar and less than 1 gram of sugar per 100mL.

Why We Love It

This is a graceful organic white for anyone who wants freshness without sharpness. The nashi pear and citrus notes make it instantly appealing, while the silky texture gives it more charm than a very lean white. It is simple in the best way: crisp, clean, unoaked and ready for seafood, pasta, sushi and soft cheese.

Food Pairing

With pear, citrus, white flowers and a smooth dry finish, this Pinot Grigio suits delicate, fresh and lightly creamy dishes. It is especially good with sushi, prawns, white fish, soft cheeses, herbs, light pasta and green vegetables.

Producer

Spring Seed Wine Co is part of the Bosworth family’s McLaren Vale wine story, based at 92 Gaffney Road in Willunga. The vineyard was established in the early 1970s by Peter and Anthea Bosworth and is now run by Joch Bosworth and Louise Hemsley-Smith. Joch began converting the vineyard to organic viticulture in 1995, and the vines have been certified organic since 1999. The Spring Seed labels are inspired by vintage flower seed packets, with Poppy using flower artwork chosen for the Pinot Grigio range.

FAQ

What does Spring Seed Poppy Pinot Grigio 2025 taste like?

It tastes light, fresh and crisp, with white flowers, nashi pear, pear skin, citrus, lemon and lime. The palate is dry and smooth, with a silky texture and clean finish. It is a fresher Grigio style rather than a rich, spicy Pinot Gris.

Is this Pinot Grigio dry or sweet?

This is a dry white wine, with approximately 2 g/L residual sugar and less than 1 gram of sugar per 100mL. The pear fruit gives gentle softness, but the finish is crisp and clean. It is not a sweet white wine.

What is the body and acidity like?

The body is light, with fresh acidity and no oak influence. The palate is smooth rather than sharp, which makes it easy to enjoy as an aperitif or with food. It finishes with citrus freshness and gentle pear flavour.

Does this wine contain preservatives or sulphites?

This is a certified organic Pinot Grigio, not a No Added Preservative wine. It may contain sulphites, as most wines do, and organic wines are made to lower allowable sulphur limits than conventional wines. It is certified organic and vegan suitable.

How should I serve Spring Seed Poppy Pinot Grigio?

Serve chilled at around 7–9°C in a standard white wine glass. No decanting is needed. If it is very cold from the fridge, give it a few minutes in the glass so the pear, citrus and floral notes can open.

What food pairs well with this Pinot Grigio?

It pairs beautifully with sushi, prawns, grilled fish, light pasta, mild cheeses, asparagus tart and fresh salads. The citrus line suits seafood and herbs, while the silky texture works with soft cheese and delicate creamy dishes. For a vegetarian match, try asparagus and ricotta tart or sushi rolls with avocado and cucumber.

Can this wine be cellared?

This Pinot Grigio is best enjoyed young while the pear, citrus and floral aromatics are bright. Drink now to 2027 for the freshest expression. Store it somewhere cool, dark and stable.

Is Spring Seed Poppy Pinot Grigio vegan friendly?

Yes, this wine is vegan suitable. It is also certified organic and made from the Bosworth family’s McLaren Vale vineyard. It is a lovely choice for mixed tables where you want a light organic white with broad appeal.

Who will enjoy this wine the most?

This is ideal for drinkers who enjoy crisp, dry whites with pear, citrus and a smooth finish. If you like Pinot Grigio, Pinot Gris, fresh Vermentino or lighter organic whites, this will suit you well. It is softer than a very grassy Sauvignon Blanc and lighter than Chardonnay.

Is this wine keto friendly?

Yes, this is a dry, low-sugar white wine with approximately 2 g/L residual sugar and less than 1 gram of sugar per 100mL. It can suit many keto-conscious drinkers looking for an organic white. Alcohol still contributes calories, so enjoy it mindfully as part of your broader plan.
