Tasting Notes

Wild plum, tart cherry and red berries lead the nose, followed by white pepper, baking spice and a little dried herb savouriness. The palate is juicy and light-to-medium bodied, with bright red fruit, a dry finish and fine, dusty tannins that keep the wine refreshing rather than sweet or heavy. A gentle chill brings out its cranberry-like crunch and makes the spice lift beautifully.

Winemaking

This Grenache Nouveau is made in a joven style, designed to capture bright fruit, freshness and early drinkability. The wine includes 15% whole bunch and is hand-plunged in open fermenters, with no fining and no added preservatives. That combination gives the wine aromatic lift, gentle savoury detail and a clean, fruit-driven line without unnecessary weight.

Vineyard & Vintage

The fruit comes from three distinct McLaren Vale bush-vine Grenache vineyards. One parcel is from the low-altitude, coastal Lacey vineyard in Tatachilla, another from young vines in the elevated Seaview subregion, and the third from 60-year-old bush vines in Blewitt Springs planted on deep sand. Together they bring red-fruited brightness, spice, sandy tannin and freshness.

Why We Love It

This is Grenache in its relaxed, modern red-wine moment: juicy, fragrant, dry and lovely with a light chill. It has the charm of a bright young red, but there is still proper McLaren Vale structure underneath, so it works at the table as well as it does on the couch. The preservative-free approach keeps the fruit pure and the style wonderfully immediate.

Food Pairing

Sherrah Grenache Nouveau 2025 suits food with char, herbs, spice and a little salt. Think Mediterranean vegetables, lamb kofta, mushroom burgers, pizza, charcuterie, sausages, grilled eggplant or smoky barbecue dishes. The wine’s red fruit and gentle tannin are especially good with savoury, lightly spiced food.

FAQ

What does Sherrah Grenache Nouveau 2025 taste like?

It tastes like bright wild plum, tart cherry, red berries, white pepper and baking spice. The palate is dry, juicy and light-to-medium bodied, with dusty tannins and a savoury little herbal edge. It is made for drink-now freshness rather than heavy, oak-driven richness.

Is this wine sweet, light-bodied or tannic?

This is a dry red wine with ripe fruit flavour, not sweetness. It sits in the light-to-medium-bodied zone, with low-to-moderate tannin and medium acidity. The tannins are more dusty and textural than firm or chewy.

How should I serve Sherrah Grenache Nouveau?

Serve it lightly chilled at around 12–14°C, especially in warmer weather. A Pinot Noir or light red wine glass will show off the perfume and red-fruit lift. Too warm, it may look softer and more alcoholic; slightly chilled, it becomes brighter and more refreshing.

Should I decant this wine?

No full decant is needed. Open it 10–15 minutes before serving, or pour the first glass and let it unfurl naturally. Because it is preservative free, avoid leaving it open for long periods before serving.

Does this wine contain preservatives or sulphites?

This is a No Added Preservative wine. Most wines contain tiny amounts of naturally occurring sulphites from fermentation, but no preservatives are added here. Store it carefully and enjoy within a couple of days once opened.

Is Sherrah Grenache Nouveau vegan friendly?

Yes, Sherrah wines are vegan friendly. This wine is also made with no fining, which supports its pure, unfussy fruit expression. It is a good choice for drinkers looking for a preservative-free and vegan-friendly red.

What food pairs best with this Grenache?

It is excellent with pizza, charcuterie, lamb kofta, grilled sausages, mushroom burgers and smoky vegetables. The red fruit works with tomato and spice, while the dusty tannins suit grilled edges and savoury herbs. For a vegetarian match, try grilled eggplant, mushroom skewers or Mediterranean roast vegetables.

Who will love this wine?

Anyone who enjoys bright, juicy, chillable reds will be right at home here. It is a lovely choice for Pinot Noir drinkers who want a little more McLaren Vale sunshine, or for Grenache fans who prefer freshness over heaviness. It is also ideal for people exploring preservative-free reds that still have flavour and structure.

Can this wine be cellared?

This is best enjoyed young, while the wild plum, cherry and spice are at their most vibrant. Drink now or over the next 1–3 years. It is not designed as a long-term cellar wine.

Is this wine keto friendly?

Dry Grenache is generally a suitable low-sugar wine style for many keto-conscious drinkers. This wine tastes dry and fruit-driven rather than sweet. Suitability always depends on your own dietary goals and serving size.
