Tasting Notes for Organic Hill Founders Preservative Free Shiraz 2022 from the Winery

In the glass, this Shiraz has a black core and magenta rim, with aromas of subtle red and black fruit, earthy tones, pepper and cloves. Itsjuicy, pretty red fruit notes with chocolate and spice are classic McLaren Vale, while not being too overpowering. From a cooler, dry vintage, the wine is medium bodied, complimented with spice, fine tannins and a balanced, fresh finish and beguiling complexity.

McLaren Vale

McLaren Vale is one of the great and oldest wine regions in Australia, offering a multiplicity of soils and an ideal Mediterranean climate. Our McLaren Vale vineyard in Sellicks, proximity to the ocean give cooling sea breezes helping to retain varietal distinction and natural acid line.

Winemaking

The Shiraz grapes were harvested from an organic and biodynamic vineyard, in the premium McLaren Vale region of South Australia. The grapes were destemmed into an open top fermenter and inoculated with a Rhone yeast (CLOS). The juice was then pumped over the skins twice daily for ten days, before being pressed, with the free run and pressings being combined. The wine underwent malolactic fermentation in tank and was bottled early without the use of finings or sulfur dioxide additions, to retain its freshness, vibrancy and no preservatives added provenance. Drink now or cellar carefully until 2030.
