With a pale green yellow colour and a complex nose of lemon, nuts and slight grassiness, the palate is unexpectedly rich and full with persistant lemon and nut characters giving a long and complex finish.
The Story
Although regarded as a workhorse in Australia, in the right place Semillon can produce wines of great richness and complexity. In our vineyard with biodynamic nurture it is transformed into a wine of aristocratic breadth . A cool rather wet spring/summer was followed by our usual glorious Autumn. A small crop ripened quickly with wonderful acid/fruit balance at harvest.
Handpicked on the 10th April 2003 fruit was wholebunch pressed, settled for 48 hours without enzymes then racked to wild ferment which began after 5 days and completed in June. Falling bright with gravity our wines are neither fined nor filtered and are bottled by hand using natural corks.
