Angove Naturalis Organic Chardonnay 2024: Tasting Notes

WINE STYLE → Peachy, Creamy Chardonnay (Without the Heavy Oak)

Here’s a Chardonnay that proves “organic” can still feel plush and generous. Angove grow the fruit for this wine in their certified organic Nanya Vineyard near Paringa, with a small portion from a certified organic site on the outskirts of McLaren Vale to add extra depth. The result is a soft, full white with melon and luscious peach up front, a gentle touch of subtle oak cream, and a finish that lingers with real richness (without slipping into buttery overload).

Tasting Notes

Soft green-yellow in the glass, this Chardonnay opens with ripe melon and luscious peach, followed by a gentle, creamy oak note that feels more like a whisper than a shout. The palate is soft and full, with stone-fruit richness through the middle and a rounded, satisfying finish that carries on with lovely length. It’s dry rather than sweet, but it gives you that “creamy Chardonnay comfort” feel – just kept tidy, fresh and very drinkable.

Winemaking

Perfectly ripened organic Chardonnay grapes are picked at various stages of ripeness to build extra dimension and character. The juice is extracted with delicate membrane presses at Angove’s certified organic winery, then allowed a short settling period before fermentation begins in cooled tanks. Once dry, the wine receives a light filtration prior to bottling in-house, keeping the style clean, polished and true to the fruit.

Vineyard & Vintage

Fruit is grown in Angove’s certified organic Nanya Vineyard near Paringa, South Australia, with a small contribution from a certified organic vineyard on the outskirts of McLaren Vale. Paringa’s sandy loam over limestone, abundant sunshine, warm days and cool nights help build flavour-packed grapes, while the McLaren Vale component adds depth and richness. Angove treat the vineyard as a holistic system, and at no stage do they use synthetic pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, fertilisers or inputs of any kind – everything comes from nature, pure and clean.

Why We Love It

It’s the Chardonnay you reach for when you want something soft, creamy and satisfying, but still fresh enough to keep the next glass feeling like a good idea. Plenty of peach and melon, a gentle oak cream note, and a finish that lingers beautifully.

Food Pairing

Chardonnay loves roasted flavours, creamy textures and anything with a little savoury edge. This style is especially good with baked veg, roast chicken, and comfort-food mains that call for a white with some weight.

Mood or occasion to match this wine…

A cosy night in, a “let’s cook something delicious” dinner, or a long lunch where you want a white with a bit of comfort and polish.

Serving Tips

Serve chilled at 9–11°C. If it feels a little tight straight from the fridge, give it 5 minutes in the glass and the peach-and-cream notes really start to bloom.

Cellaring

This is a “drink young” style – best enjoyed now and over the next 1–2 years for peak fruit and freshness. Once opened, reseal and refrigerate – it will hold well for 2–3 days.

Producer

Angove Family Winemakers are one of Australia’s long-standing pioneers of organic wine. Their Naturalis range is built around certified organic fruit, minimal inputs, and a clean, modern style that tastes pure, vibrant and easy to love.

FAQ

What does Angove Naturalis Organic Chardonnay taste like?

A soft, full Chardonnay with melon and luscious peach, finished with a gentle touch of subtle oak cream and a rich, lingering finish.

Is Angove Naturalis Organic Chardonnay dry or sweet?

Dry. Residual sugar is listed at approximately ≈ 2 g/L, so it tastes rounded and creamy rather than sweet.

Is this Chardonnay oaky?

It has a subtle oak cream note, but it’s not a heavily oaked style. The fruit stays front and centre, with oak sitting quietly in the background for softness and shape.

Is this wine certified organic and vegan friendly?

Yes – it’s certified organic and vegan suitable.

Where are the grapes grown?

Grapes are grown in Angove’s certified organic Nanya Vineyard near Paringa in South Australia, with a small component from a certified organic vineyard on the outskirts of McLaren Vale.

Does this wine contain preservatives (sulphites)?

All wines can contain naturally occurring sulphites, and many wines have some added for stability. This wine is described as having minimal preservatives, so sulphites are present at some level rather than “no added”. Learn more about preservative in wine

What foods pair best with this Chardonnay?

Roast chicken, baked vegetable dishes, creamy pasta, corn and zucchini fritters, and anything with a savoury, roasted edge. It also works beautifully with richer seafood like salmon.

What temperature should I serve it?

Serve at 9–11°C. Too cold and you’ll lose the peach-and-cream detail; a few minutes in the glass brings it to life.

How long does it last after opening?

2–3 days if resealed and stored in the fridge.

Can I cellar Angove Naturalis Organic Chardonnay?

It’s made as a drink-young style. Enjoy now or over the next 1–2 years for the freshest fruit and best texture.

Who will enjoy this wine most?

If you love Chardonnay that feels soft, creamy and satisfying (but not overly buttery or heavily oaked), this is a gorgeous match – especially if certified organic and vegan friendly matters to you.
