Still plenty of fruit, vibrancy and life in this no preservative wine. Red & dark fruits frolic; raspberry, plum & cherry with lifted forest undergrowth and exotic woodsy spice. The wine flows onto the palate with a silky texture, it's medium bodied but surprisingly rich and full with vibrant naturally sweet flavours well balanced with fresh acidity and the whole bunch grip. Drinking brilliantly right now.

Summary: For a small winemaker, Woods Crampton has achieved a lot in a small amount of time. Part of the Barossa new wave, Woods Crampton make contemporary wines, balancing character, complexity and freshness, a world away from the fruit bombs of the past. The Woods Crampton coloured range is a collection of contemporary and thought-provoking blends that place drinkability as the highest ambition.

Winemaking: Chilled overnight before a cold soak for five days at eight degrees. Fermented in small open fermenters with twenty percent whole bunch. The fruit was allowed to rise to natural temperature and begin wild fermentation without any additions or sulphur. Pressed to tank and matured without the influence of oak. Bottled without fining, ultra-loose filtration and no sulphur addition. Less than 8ppm FS02 post bottling so technically a Preservative Free Wine.

2018 Vintage: the winter of 2017 was very mild and without any rain at all until the month of June with soils replenished for the pending growing season. The mild conditions continued through Spring and Summer with very little rain but also without significant heat periods. The ripening was even throughout most of the Barossa delivering very high quality with bright fruit flavours and good natural acidity.

Tasting Note: Pedro was inspired by the light and bright “lunchtime” wines found in bistros throughout the Rhone Valley. Surprisingly dark in colour with the wild expression only no sulphur wines can give – all red fruits, lifted forest undergrowth and exotic spice. The palate is again surprisingly rich and full with vibrant naturally sweet flavours exploding in the mouth before being reined in by whole bunch grip and fresh acidity. Drinking brilliantly now or for the next couple of years.

"Hand-picked, fermented with 20 whole bunches, made without oak or SO2. Obviously all about fruits: plum, red cherry and raspberry. Equally obviously drink now."

"Gorgeously attractive and beautifully perfumed, the bouquet shows Black Doris plum, raspberry, vanilla, hazelnut and mixed spice aromas. The palate is equally satisfying with excellent fruit intensity and persistency, wonderfully complemented by silky texture and flowing mouthfeel. Delightfully drinkable. At its best: now to 2026."

"20% whole bunches, unoaked, preservative free. Lovely wine. So much spice, flow, fragrance. It’s like taking a big jump into a box full of woodsy spice and pot pourri. Just so much deliciousness. Worth every cent. It opens a bit grumpy straight from the bottle but 15 minutes later and it really starts to sing."
