Vineyard & Vintage: The Shiraz was grown at Temple Bruers’ Loxton North Vineyard where the soil is predominantly red mallee loam over limestone and the vines are approximately 30 years old. The Malbec was grown in Paringa in the Riverland. The Malbec was picked at 13 Baume, on the 26th Feb and the Shiraz was harvested on the 22nd Feb at 13.2 Baume, in the cool of the morning. The 2021 vintage and growing season was very cool and dry, which led to slower ripening over the season. Natural acidity, concentrated fruit flavour and fine tannins were seen over all Temple Bruer vineyards and regions. Picking began in late January in McLaren Vale and finished in late April with Eden Valley. Yields and quality were good due to a wet winter across our vineyards followed by a cooler but also dry summer which led to low disease pressure and even long ripening periods.
Winemaking: Both parcels were destemmed and fermentation commenced. They had a long and cool fermentation over two and a half weeks at temperatures between 18-20C to retain fresh aromatics. After fermentation was complete, Malolactic fermentation was encouraged and was completed 1 week later. The wine was blended and left on French oak before being bottled in May 2021. No Sulphur dioxide was added while making this wine.
