Tasting Notes from the Winery for Temple Bruer Preservative Free Mataro Shiraz Grenache 2020

AROMA

Aromas of Cranberries and plums, cherry, violets, cinnamon and black pepper.

FLAVOUR

A balanced medium to full palate, with lots of fruit weight. Small and fine tannins.

VINEYARD

The fruit was sourced from Temple Bruers own vineyards in the Riverland. The Mataro and Shiraz comes from 40-year-old vines on the banks at Watchels Lagoon in Moorook and the Grenache is from Temple Bruers Loxton North Vineyard. Both sites have sand over clay subsoils with lime. An overall late start to vintage, as cooler conditions were seen throughout the ripening season. The Shiraz at Moorook was picked first on the 4th Feburary, and the Grenache was picked on the 3rd March followed two weeks later with the Mataro. A long growing season for our Riverland vineyards meant acidity and good fruit balance was retained and some beautiful varietal characters are apparent.

WINEMAKING

A cold soak at 5-10 degrees celcius was performed on all three parcels. They then had cool fermentations and were fermented separately for an average of two weeks. After a gentle pressing, the wines were racked and Malolactic fermentation was completed. After MLF was finished the wines were blended together and bottled in early September 2020. No Sulphur dioxide was added to this wine. The composition of this wine is Mataro (37%), Shiraz (32%), Grenache (31%).
