Here is a fantastic opportunity to try a 9yo Cabernet Merlot from the Yarra Valley. Age has done well by this wine. It is garnet in colour and starting to show hints of brown at the edge. The nose still shows some blackcurrant fruit but the lovely aged tobbaco leaf and leather notes are a highlight, lifted with the some minty eucalypt. The medium palate has fine smooth powdery tannins and more leather and spice, and it holds on for a nice long finish. Anything under $30 for this wine is a bargain. Way too easy to find yourself at the end of the bottle.
