Winery/Brand: Roundtable

Styled to be a food wine and hence not as highly coloured as some Australian shiraz, rosso has been inspired be the modern Spanish 'Joven' winestyle and 70's traditional red from the Mclaren Vale region. As these generally had stuff-all oak, the rustic vineyard fruit aromas of sticky freshly harvested shiraz bunches and wild roadside fennel give rosso a whack of licorice allsorts up front. Nick has aimed for a Rhone-ish leesy character to flesh it out. Suger dry, the lees give delicious round richness with the aromas appropriately following through in the mid-palate and finish.

The Story

"One sniff of this and I was up the hill at Marseille, whole smoked fish on the coals, Gauloise smoke in the air, and Africa blowing in off the sea. It's punky, funky, bore-dry, unoaked biodynamic shiraz from Nick Bickford, who's obviously blessed by Bacchus with an irreverent gastronomic intelligence that leaves the rest of the wine industry for dead. 94/100" Philip White, The Adelaide Advertiser 26/04/06
