Winery/Brand: Robinvale Wines
"Robinvale is one of the few growers of Kerner, a high quality German-bred cross between Riesling and Trollinger (the latter an obscure red variety). The 2002 Demeter Reserve Kerner (84 points, $15) comes from 1.5 hectares of plantings, and shows its Riesling parentage in its mineral and wild herb aromas and lemony acidity on the finish. It has definite cellaring potential, and is vegan/vegetarian suitable. (It does contain SO2.)" James Halliday, June 2003
The Story
This unusual, tasty, biodynamic white has forced me to reassess Robinvale, a winery which I’ve found rather underwhelming in the past. Kerner is a crossing of riesling and the obscure German grape trollinger. This example smells like a very ripe riesling - almost tropical, pineappley - and tastes viognier-like, rich and creamy in the mouth." Max Allen, Weekend Australian Magazine 25-26 March 2006
