Our Orange vineyard experienced a winter with some extreme cold weather and lower than average rainfall. The season stayed dry, but with enough surface moisture to ensure strong growth of both fruit and vine. Hot, dry weather saw the beginning of 2019 but the vineyard escaped the extreme hot weather that plagued other NSW wine regions. Picking started in late February and this signalled the start of a hectic vintage with reds and whites ripening simultaneously. Quality has been impressive.
The Orange region is favoured for its high altitude cool climate. Situated approximately 270 km west of Sydney the topography and soils of the region are dominated by the extinct volcano Mt Canobolas. Soils in the central part of the region are derived from the basaltic lavas of the old volcano, and primarily consist of deep red to brown free draining clay loams.

Orange (New South Wales) 100%, WINEMAKING The grapes were harvested in the cool of the night and cold soaked for three days. The fruit was then inoculated for ferment in a static fermenter and pumped over once daily. Once dry, the wine was pressed off skins to tank and settled before being filtered to bottle without any additives or preservatives.
