With lovely aromas of raspberry, chocolate and hints of cherry, it’s a stunning medium-bodied red and the prefect accompaniment to duck a l’orange, from the McLaren Vale region.
Tasting Notes for Organic Hill Founders Preservative Free Grenache 2022 from the Winery
The McLaren Vale region in South Australia produces some world-class Grenache varietals and this wine is no exception. With lovely aromas of raspberry, plums, blueberries and spice this wine has a deep red core and magenta rim. The fruit character flows to the palate with a juicy entry and vibrant fresh acidity. The red and blue fruits roll through the palate to a long, balanced finish that is focussed with fine tannins, creating an attractive medium bodied red to be enjoyed now or cellared for 5-8 years.
McLaren Vale
McLaren Vale is one of the great and oldest wine regions in Australia, offering a multiplicity of soils and an ideal Mediterranean climate. Our McLaren Vale vineyard in Sellicks, proximity to the ocean give cooling sea breezes helping to retain varietal distinction and natural acid line.
Winemaking
Grapes were hand harvested from our organic and biodynamic vineyard, in the premium McLaren Vale region. Destemmed with a small portion of stems added back to the fermenter. Fermented ‘on skins’ for 12 days in an open top fermenter with a Rhone yeast (CLOS) at around 75.2°F, before pressing with both the free run and pressings combined. With no oak influence, the wine was bottled young to retain its freshness. Its primary fruit looks optimal and bright, without fining or sulfur dioxide addition to retain its no preservatives added provenance.
