Tasting Notes

Deep crimson in the glass, Clarry’s opens with fresh cherry, red berries and blueberry pie. Potpourri, musk, liquorice and spice bring aromatic lift, while garden herbs add a subtle savoury edge.

The palate is medium-bodied, vibrant and plush, with juicy red and blue fruit flowing through the centre. Gentle chalky tannins provide shape and balance, while very old oak adds texture without dominating the fruit. The finish is long, bright and harmonious.

Why We Love It

Clarry’s delivers the generous fruit expected from a Barossa red without excessive weight, sweetness or oak. Grenache brings fragrance and juicy red fruit, Shiraz adds depth and blueberry richness, while Mataro contributes herbs, spice and structure.

The 2025 vintage has excellent freshness and energy, making this an easy red to enjoy with dinner or simply open for a relaxed evening. It offers serious vineyard pedigree and thoughtful winemaking at a very approachable level.

Winemaking

The Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro were harvested separately from 14 February to 24 March 2025. Each variety was fermented individually in open-top fermenters, with hand pump-overs performed twice daily.

After seven to fourteen days on skins, the wines were traditionally pressed and matured separately for ten months in very old oak hogsheads. The final blend brings together 48% Grenache, 36% Shiraz and 16% Mataro.

Vineyard & Vintage

Clarry’s is grown across more than a dozen Kalleske vineyard blocks at Greenock in the Barossa Valley. The vines range from mature plantings to old Grenache dating back to 1940, with most growing in shallow sandy loam over deep red clay and limestone.

The 2025 season was warm and dry, with lower-than-average rainfall and significant spring frost reducing yields. Earlier harvesting retained fragrance, acidity and bright fruit, giving the finished wine freshness alongside its natural Barossa generosity.

Food Pairing

The juicy fruit, savoury herbs and gentle tannins make this a versatile red for relaxed food pairing. It works especially well with lamb, grilled meats, sausages, tomato-based dishes, smoky vegetables and Mediterranean flavours.

Cellaring

Clarry’s is delicious while young and fruit-driven, with enough balance and structure to develop over the next five years. Store bottles in a cool, dark place with a consistent temperature.

Producer

Kalleske is a seventh-generation family-owned winery based at Greenock in the Barossa Valley. The Kalleske family has farmed the property since 1853, with brothers Troy and Tony Kalleske continuing the family tradition of growing and making wine entirely from their own estate vineyards.

The vineyards are certified organic and biodynamic, with a strong focus on healthy soils, biodiversity and long-term vineyard resilience. Synthetic herbicides and systemic chemicals are avoided, allowing the vines and individual vineyard blocks to express their natural character. Clarry’s is named after Clarence “Clarry” Kalleske, who tended the family vineyards from the late 1920s until the 1990s.
