Tasting notes from the winery for Indigo Organic Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
A true and varietal Cabernet showing regional typicity through dark, brooding berry fruit flavours alongside earth and undergrowth. Subtle floral, violet-like aromas and flavours with vanilla and cedar oak meandering through the rich fruit flavours with subtle nuances of dried herb and tobacco. Drinking wonderfully now as a full flavoured and mouth-filling wine with plushness of fruit harnessed by typical grainy tannins that will also ensure longevity if cellared carefully.
The Indigo Grape Growers Collective is a modern range of Organic wines sourced and crafted by a small number of like-minded vignerons from their organically grown vineyards in the historic wine regions of North-Eastern Victoria. Though collectively known as the greater Indigo region, more specifically the fruit for these wines was grown in the heart of Rutherglen and neighbouring Glenrowan, famous for producing warm, fuller bodied wine styles with rich flavours and heady aromatics. These wines are part of a progressive generation that choose sustainable organic farming as well as crafting wines that are suitable for vegans.
WINEMAKING: Sourced from two neighbouring blocks of a well-established vineyard and picked early in the morning to avoid the heat of the day. 100% destemmed and partially fermented in steel tank and older oak before blending and maturation for 9 months in mostly second use oak. Bottled with minimal fining and filtration and released after three months maturation in bottle.
2019 VINTAGE: Good rainfall set an auspicious start to the growing region. Conditions were set for a dry but favourable vintage. Lack of water resulted in early ripening and modest crops and those with good water were able to nurture their vines through prolonged periods of heat. Intense heat through February lent intensity and structure. A strong vintage overall.
VARIETY: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
SOIL: Loam over brown clay
AGE: 25+ years
REGION: Glenrowan, Victoria
WINEMAKER: Corey Ryan
"Beautiful red and blue berry-like lift to the nose and a nice length of solid varietal fruit flavours layered with quality oak and with good tannin balance."
