A fantastic example of a Biodynamic white wine full of class and purity. RIch coppery-yellow in colour, the nose exudes mandarin, lemon rind, apple and a hint of nuttiness. On the palate this is an intense textural wine, rich and honeyed, but not overpowering, with an inherent freshness and vibrancy. The fruit quality is evident by the complex and lingering finish.
This is an "orange' style of wine, made with some skin contact. Fantastic with a range of rich foods.
Hochkirch vineyard lies on a north facing slope 250 m. above sea level along an elevated plateau running southwest from Dunkeld at the foot of the Grampians in far south west Victoria. The vines are dry farmed (no irrigation) and no synthetic fungicides, pesticides or fertilisers are used; certified bio-dynamic by Demeter.
Tasting Notes for Hochkirch Biodynamic Blanc 2018 from the winery:
Cropping level was very reduced in this vintage. The whole bunches of Semillon were placed into open top fermenters and after a couple of days they were lightly trod by foot. Fermentation using natural yeasts lasted about 6 days and then pressed into closed fermenters. Malolactic fermentation occured in Spring and the wine was then aged in small old French oak barrrels.
Long slow fermentation, natural yeasts, no filtration, minimal intervention and additives. Vineyard is high-density planted and dry farmed. Certified Biodynamic by Demeter.
