Tasting notes from the winery for Hero of Zero Shiraz 2020

Classic Barossa on the nose with wild aromas of dark berries, ripe blood plums and exotic spice. The palate is supple and fruit driven with a mouth-filling burst of spicy, dark berry fruit flavours wrapped in fine tannins before a bright, lifted finish. Perfect with a mild beef curry. 

The Hero of Zero wines are hand-crafted from the best quality fruit sourced from premium vineyards across South Australia, including McLaren Vale and the Barossa. With meticulous handling in the vineyard and winery, the pristine fruit will have less exposure to anything harmful that may normally require the addition of preservatives. Our wines are crafted to be brightly coloured, exotically fragrant, full-flavoured and critically, they sing without the addition of preservatives. Perfectly suited to many cuisines, these wines are also crafted to ensure they are suitable for Vegans. 

WINEMAKING: Healthy and problem free fruit is selected in the vineyard and then picked in the cool of the night and then rushed to the nearby winery for a fast and focused vinification. Fermentation is cool in a closed static fermenter before a short maturation on lees and bottling. 

2020 VINTAGE: It will be remembered for high quality across the Barossa in 2020 but yields were down. This was in part due to temperamental spring weather and a hot, dry summer. Altough the yields were affected by the heatwave of December and January, prudent growers managed this well with careful irrigation and maintaining soil moisture. The resulting fruit, (though less of it) was concentrated and exceptional.
