Crimson with purple hues. Vibrant notes of chocolate and raspberry, brown spice and hints of vanillin oak. Fantastic natural sweetness and fruit drive through the entire palate, with the chocolate and raspberry notes following through from the nose. This is a medium bodied wine, which shows richness without being overpowering. The back palate is textured and the layered tannins assist with the overall weight and integration.

Aged for 12 months in 10% new, 10% 1 year, 80% 2 year old French barriques.

VINTAGE CONDITIONS

The 2014 to 2015 growing season presented us with a hot and dry spring, resulting in early onset of flowering. January brought warm but not extreme temperatures. A series of heat waves in February brought the vintage on very quickly. Good water management ensured that the vines had adequate reserves leading up to the harvest. Vintage commenced early and was over in a flash, but the resulting wines show wonderful natural acidity and flavour intensity.

WINEMAKING NOTES

The Gemstone wines all have purity and brightness, which is a reflection of the vineyards. A simple winemaking approach was taken with the Shiraz.
