Tasting Notes

Weeping Juan pours blush salmon to fairy-floss pink, lightly cloudy, with a soft creamy bead. Citrus leads the wine: orange blossom, grapefruit zest, mandarin peel oil and orange sherbet, with hints of white flowers, cherry, strawberry and pink lemonade. The palate is dry, zippy and clean, with a subtle bitter-citrus edge that keeps the finish fresh and moreish.

Winemaking

Delinquente Weeping Juan is made from Vermentino and Nero d’Avola. Each variety is picked, pressed off straight away and fermented separately using wild yeast. The components are then blended just before bottling, while the Nero d’Avola is still fermenting, so the final part of primary fermentation happens in bottle. This creates the naturally sparkling pétillant naturel style, sealed under crown cap.

Vineyard & Vintage

The fruit comes from the Bassham family organic vineyard in Barmera, in South Australia’s Riverland. The blend is led by Vermentino, with Nero d’Avola bringing the wine’s pink colour, red-fruit lift and gentle savoury edge. These Southern Italian varieties are well suited to the warm, dry Riverland climate, giving the 2025 release its bright citrus, low alcohol and breezy refreshment.

Why We Love It

Weeping Juan is playful without being sugary, pink without being predictable, and sparkling without the formality. It has that lovely aperitivo-style balance of citrus, florals, creamy fizz and bitter peel, making it just as useful with snacks as it is on its own. At 10.8% ABV, it is also a brilliant low-alcohol sparkling for long lunches and warm afternoons.

Food Pairing

This pét-nat suits salty, crunchy, fresh and lightly creamy dishes. The citrus and fizz cut through richness, while the pink-lemonade fruit works beautifully with herbs, seafood, soft cheese and summery vegetables.

Cellaring

Drink now while the citrus, florals and bubbles are at their brightest. This is a fresh pét-nat made for young drinking rather than long-term cellaring.

Producer

Delinquente Wine Co is based in South Australia’s Riverland, where winemaker Con-Greg Grigoriou focuses on organically grown Southern Italian grape varieties that suit the region’s warm, dry conditions. The wines are small-batch, single-vineyard and handmade, with wild yeast fermentation and minimal intervention in the winery. Delinquente has helped reshape the conversation around Riverland wine, showing that climate-appropriate varieties such as Vermentino and Nero d’Avola can make fresh, expressive, low-fuss wines with real personality.
