Tasting Notes
Del Popolo Rosso opens with bright red plum, deep berries and a little dark cherry, moving into soft spice and gentle savoury warmth. The palate is dry, round and medium-bodied, with balanced fruit, soft tannins and a smooth, easy finish. It has enough wild-ferment and barrel-aged character to keep things interesting, but the main impression is generous, relaxed and beautifully food-friendly.
Winemaking
Del Popolo Rosso is made from a mixed collection of red grapes, wild-fermented on full skins in open vats through primary fermentation, with twice-daily punch downs. The components were pressed to aged 300L barrels for malolactic fermentation, then barrel-aged separately for 27 months. The wine was brought together for three months of bulk maturation before being bottled unfiltered.
Vineyard & Vintage
This wine comes from Minimum Wines in Victoria’s Goulburn Valley, a warm inland region that suits ripe, generous reds with soft fruit weight and savoury structure. The 2021 release has benefited from time in bottle, bringing the red plum and deep berry fruit into a rounder, more settled place. It remains bright and balanced, with the softness and natural warmth that make the Del Popolo range so easy to enjoy.
Why We Love It
This is excellent organic table wine: generous enough for comfort food, soft enough for casual sipping and interesting enough to pour for natural-wine drinkers. It avoids the heaviness of many warm-region reds, instead offering plush red fruit, smooth structure and a little rustic charm from the wild fermentation and unfiltered bottling. It is the bottle to open when pasta, pizza, antipasti or roast vegetables are on the table.
Food Pairing
Del Popolo Rosso works beautifully with tomato-based dishes, roasted vegetables, braised meats, hard cheeses and relaxed Italian-style meals. Its soft tannins and round fruit make it a lovely partner for savoury dishes without overwhelming them.

Mood or occasion to match this wine…
The bottle for pasta night, Sunday leftovers, a shared antipasti board or a casual dinner where the wine needs to please everyone without being predictable. It is warm, rounded and relaxed, with just enough natural-wine texture to make it memorable.
Cellaring
Drink now while the fruit is still bright and the bottle age has softened the edges. It can be held for another 1–2 years under good storage conditions, but this style is at its best when enjoyed for its roundness, freshness and easy charm.

FAQ
What does Del Popolo Rosso taste like?
Del Popolo Rosso tastes of bright red plum, deep berries and dark cherry, with soft spice and a little savoury warmth. The palate is dry, round and medium-bodied, with soft tannins and a smooth finish.
Is this wine sweet or dry?
It is dry, with residual sugar listed at approximately 2 g/L. The ripe plum and berry fruit give generosity, but the wine finishes savoury and balanced rather than sweet.
Is Del Popolo Rosso organic?
Yes. Del Popolo Rosso is certified organic and made by Minimum Wines in Victoria’s Goulburn Valley. Minimum works with organic and regenerative viticulture across its small family vineyard and wine range.
Is this wine vegan friendly?
Yes. Del Popolo Rosso is vegan suitable. It is also bottled unfiltered, which fits the wine’s natural, low-intervention style.
Does Del Popolo Rosso contain preservatives or sulphites?
This wine is certified organic, but it is not listed as a No Added Preservative wine. As with most wines, sulphites may be present, including small amounts that occur naturally during fermentation.
How should I serve this red?
Serve at around 15–16°C in a medium to large red wine glass. A slight chill can work well in warmer weather, especially because the tannins are soft and the fruit is generous.
Should I decant it?
A decant is not essential, but 10–15 minutes of air will help the fruit and savoury notes open up. If serving straight from a cool cupboard or fridge, pour the first glass and let the bottle settle on the table.
What food pairs best with Del Popolo Rosso?
It is excellent with tomato-based pasta, pizza, antipasti, roast chicken, grilled sausages, meatballs and slow-cooked pork. For a vegetarian pairing, try eggplant parmigiana, mushroom pizza or lentil bolognese.
How long will it last after opening?
Once opened, enjoy it within 2–3 days for the best fruit and freshness. Reseal the bottle and store it in the fridge, then bring it slightly closer to room temperature before serving.
Who will enjoy this wine?
This is a lovely choice for drinkers who enjoy soft, medium-bodied reds that are generous but not too heavy. If you like red blends, Sangiovese, Merlot or easy Italian table reds, Del Popolo Rosso should be very much in your comfort zone.
Is Del Popolo Rosso keto friendly?
Yes. With residual sugar around 2 g/L, Del Popolo Rosso is a dry, low-sugar red wine. Suitability still depends on personal goals and serving size, but from a sugar perspective it fits well within a keto-style approach.
