There are some wild strawberries on the nose with a refreshing, lively sappy character, classic Pinot Noir. Medium bodied, the fruit on the palate is more cherry like and there is some toasty oak and earthy flavours to give the wine several levels. The flavours linger on due to tingling acidity. Made to the red French Burgundy style. Great aging potential.

The Story

Cardinia Ranges is in the Port Phillip Region being 50 kilometres due east of Melbourne and is a very new region to be recently discovered as producing outstanding Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Low yielding (1.0 tonne/acre), dry grown vines. Biodynamically grown & certified organic by the BFA - Biological Farmers of Australia.

The grapes were 100% destemmed but the berries were not crushed. The must was divided into two separate batches and fermented differently. The first batch was fermented with introduced yeast, the other was allowed to naturally ferment with its' indigenous yeast. Two different flavour profiles resulted which were blended after 12 months maturation in new (20%) and used French oak.
