Babich Individual Vineyard Headwaters Organic Block Sauvignon Blanc 2012
This is the fourth vintage from our Headwaters Estate Organic block and the resulting wine goes from strength to strength. The nose displays orange blossom, grapefruit and lemonade with floral notes graced with a touch of minerality. The palate is elegant and complex with lime, again grapefruit and a hint of spice. There is a lush texture to the wine with an unfolding herbal/mineral component, creating both a tight and delicious wine.
Region: Wairau Valley, Marlborough
Recommended Cellaring: Best enjoyed while young.
Production Notes: Fruit from our certified organic block within the Headwaters Vineyard were harvested in April. The grapes were quickly crushed and pressed into stainless steel tanks where the juice was fermented at controlled cool temperatures to capture the intense varietal flavours. Strict organic procedures were followed at all times. The wine was bottled soon after completing fermentation.
Recommended Food: Great with seafood or fish meals. Try with fresh oysters!
Residual Sugar: 3g/l
“ Bright, pale straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, pale on rim. This has a fresh and full nose with softly intense aromas of red capsicums, gooseberries, passionfruit and steely minerals, all detailed and interwoven. Dry with crisp, tingly acidity, the flavours of gosseberries and passionfruit are tightly bound but are driven with slippery acidity adding real liveliness. This has good depth and a building body, and the wine finishes with dry, fine textures and some pungent passionfruit notes. This is a youthfully tight, classical Wairau Valley Sauvignon Blanc with detail and nuances to serve with seafood, salads and vegetables over the next 2-3 years. Fruit from the ‘Headwaters’ organic block in the Wairau Valley, cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 12.4% alc. and 3.0 g/L rs, the wine spending time on lees. ” 4 STARS Raymond Chan, www.raymondchanwinereviews.co.nz, September 2012
“ With a lovely white peach, fresh pear and lemon meringue nose accented by underlying baking bread and honeysuckle hints, the medium-bodied 2012 Headwaters Organic Block Sauvignon Blanc gives tons of expressive stone fruit and citrus flavors that carry through the long, refreshing finish. ” 90 POINTS Lisa Perrotti-Brown, eRobertParker.com #197, Oct 2013
“ Made from organically grown grapes, the Sauvignon Blanc is quite retained, with an almost musky edge to the tropical fruit characters on show. Lantana and riverstone provide accents on the vibrant palate, which shows excellent drive and tension ” 90 POINTS -2013 Penguin Wine Guide
