Tasting notes for Little Birdie Pinot Noir 2025
This Pinot Noir comes across as bright, elegant, and quietly expressive, driven by red cherry and soft plum notes that feel fresh rather than heavy. The gentle spice in the background adds warmth without overshadowing the fruit. Its silky tannins and lively acidity give the palate a smooth, flowing shape, finishing savoury and clean. Overall, it tastes poised and balanced, with the purity you’d expect from careful organic vineyard work and minimal-intervention winemaking.
VINEYARD
A single vineyard wine made from grapes grown in our organically certified Nanya Vineyard, near Paringa South Australia. Early season conditions were dry, with a warm spring encouraging strong budburst and early flowering across most varieties. Summer brought consistent warmth without prolonged heatwaves, allowing for even ripening and strong canopy health throughout the region. Careful irrigation management and mild conditions through
veraison ensured flavour development was preserved. Yields remained slightly below long-term averages due to pruning strategies aimed at concentrating fruit quality and managing vine stress from the dry lead-in. Harvest timing was largely typical, with fruit showing excellent balance, ripe phenolics, and natural acidity. Winemakers across the region report wines from 2025 as vibrant, varietally expressive, and reflective of a region that continues to adapt and excel in a changing climate.
WINEMAKING
Harvested in the cool of night to preserve delicate fruit characters, the Pinot Noir grapes were quickly transported to the winery and gently destemmed. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel with gentle maceration to extract colour, flavour and fine tannins. Following fermentation, the wine was pressed and transferred to a combination of stainless steel and seasoned oak for maturation. Minimal handling and gentle filtration preceded bottling at the Angove winery to preserve varietal expression and purity.
