Angove Little Birdie Riesling: Tasting Notes
WINE STYLE → Summer in a Glass
A little birdie once told us why organic wine is so good, and this Riesling is the proof. Crafted from a rare heritage clone first planted in the early 1970s, this certified organic wine from the Nanya Vineyard perfectly balances history with exceptional purity. It delivers an expressive floral lift with a zesty, citrus-driven palate that captures the vibrant energy of the Riverland.

Taste Profile
Tasting Notes
Expect an expressive floral lift on the nose, dominated by citrus blossom and fresh lime zest with just a hint of tropical fruit. The palate is lively yet soft, carrying those zesty lime flavours through a mineral-driven core, complemented by subtle touches of guava and passionfruit. It finishes with impressive length and a crisp, refreshing snap.
Winemaking
Harvested in the cool of night to retain maximum freshness, the grapes were gently pressed using modern membrane tank presses. After cold settling, the clear juice was fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks with selected yeasts to preserve the vibrant primary aromatics. Handling was kept to a minimum before gentle filtration and bottling at the Renmark winery.
Vineyard & Vintage
This single vineyard wine hails from the certified organic Nanya Vineyard in the Riverland region. The 2025 vintage benefited from a warm spring and consistent summer heat without prolonged heatwaves, allowing for even ripening and excellent natural acidity. Pruning strategies were used to concentrate fruit quality, resulting in a vibrant and varietally expressive Riesling.
Why We Love It
We love the "clean fruit, clean farming" philosophy that defines the Little Birdie range. There is something special about drinking a wine from 50-year-old heritage vines that has been handled with such a gentle, organic touch. It’s pure, energetic, and dangerously drinkable.
Food Pairing
Riesling’s natural acidity is a dream with salty seafood, citrusy dressings and spicy dishes. Keep it simple and fresh: herbs, chilli, lime, ginger, crunchy textures and anything that comes with a dipping sauce.

Mood or occasion to match this wine…
Seafood nights, sunny lunches, aperitif-and-nibbles sessions, or any time you want a white that feels crisp, clean and instantly uplifting.
Serving Tips
Serve well chilled at 7–9°C. A slightly larger white wine glass helps the aromatics open. No decanting needed.
Cellaring
Delicious now for its bright citrus lift, but Riesling also ages beautifully. Drink over the next 3–6 years for extra complexity (more toast and honey notes) while keeping that lovely line of acidity. Once opened, reseal and refrigerate – best within 2–3 days.

FAQ
Is Angove Little Birdie Riesling 2025 sweet or dry?
Dry. It’s made in a crisp, dry Australian Riesling style, focused on citrus flavour and a clean finish rather than sweetness.
What does Angove Little Birdie Riesling 2025 taste like?
Bright lime and lemon, a little green apple, and a clean mineral finish. It’s light-bodied, mouth-watering and very refreshing.
Is this Riesling organic and vegan?
Yes – it’s certified organic and vegan suitable.
Does dry Riesling taste sour?
Not when it’s balanced. This wine is high in acidity (that’s what makes it refreshing), but the fruit and flavour intensity keep it feeling zesty and clean rather than harsh.
What food pairs best with dry Riesling?
Seafood, sushi, Vietnamese and Thai-style dishes, anything with lime, herbs, chilli or ginger, plus salty snacks like olives or lightly fried seafood.
Can I pair this Riesling with spicy food?
Yes. Dry Riesling is brilliant with spice because the bright acidity refreshes your palate and the citrus flavours work beautifully with chilli and aromatic herbs.
What temperature should I serve it?
Serve well chilled at around 7–9°C. If it’s too cold, you’ll taste less aroma – give it 2–3 minutes in the glass and it will open up.
Do I need to decant Riesling?
No decanting needed. Just chill and pour. A standard white wine glass helps the lime and floral notes show more clearly.
How long does it last once opened?
2–3 days if resealed and stored in the fridge.
Can I cellar Angove Little Birdie Riesling 2025?
Yes. It’s delicious now, but it can also age well for around 3–6 years, developing more complex honeyed and toasty notes while keeping its freshness.
Is this wine preservative-free?
It’s certified organic and vegan suitable, but it isn’t labelled as preservative-free or no-added-preservatives.
Does it contain sulphites?
All wines may contain naturally occurring sulphites, and most wines have some added sulphur as a stabiliser. This wine is not sold as no-added-preservatives, so assume sulphites are present.
Who will love this wine most?
If you love crisp whites like Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio, or you enjoy zesty, citrus-driven wines that make seafood taste even better, this is a perfect fit.
