Tasting Notes for Temple Bruer Preservative Free Shiraz Malbec 2022 from the Winery

Juicy berries and spice. Full-bodied, medium acid, and soft, subtle tannins.

Palate: A full-bodied blend, with malbec shining through showing its blackberry and mulberry fruit, spice, and leathery and smoky finish. Soft and subtle tannins.

Nose: Black cherry, redcurrant, violet, mulberry, blackberry, raspberry, spiced plum, star anise, and clove.

Food Pairing: Stuffed capsicum and tomato or Blue cheese and lamb

Peak Drinking: Drink now or cellar for up to 5 years

Vintage Notes

A strong 2022 vintage from high-quality fruit and low to moderate yields with excellent natural acidity from an overall cool vintage with extended ripening periods for most varieties. Perhaps one of the longest vintages we have experienced, harvest continued for 11 weeks. We commenced picking chardonnay on February 3rd in the Riverland, and concluded on April 25th at Langhorne Creek with shiraz.

Vineyard

This shiraz was grown at Temple Bruer's Loxton vineyard, where the vines were planted in 1996. The block was purchased by Temple Bruer in 2011, and since then has has undergone reconstruction. Previously most of the vineyard at Loxton was machine pruned so it took major redevelopment of the cordon, trellis and irrigation to ensure the vines are well looked after for the future. Malbec was planted at Moorook in 2016, and is thriving at this site. We are looking forward to a future with high quality malbec being produced both here and in Langhorne Creek.

Winemaking/Vinification

No sulphur dioxide was added while making this wine.
