The Story
Richmond Plains Blanc de Noir is an exciting unique wine. Made 100% from Pinot Noir grapes in a white wine style. Its faint pink diamond colour hinting at its origins. Nicely chilled this wine is perfect as an aperitif or summertime drinking. All Richmond Plains grapes are grown on our own vineyard. Both the growing of our grapes and winemaking are certified organic by BioGro New Zealand.
Vintage: Fruit was hand picked from 14 year old Pinot Noir vines on Scott Henry trellising. A warm, dry autumn contributed produced good quality fruit and excellent flavours.
Wine Making: All fruit was very gently whole bunch pressed to minimize skin contact and colour extraction and the juice cool fermented to preserve primary fruit characters.
Sulphur: This wine is made with minimal levels of sulphur/SO2/preservative 220.
Vegan: This wine is suitable for vegetarian diets.
“ 100% Pinot Noir from the Certified Organic and Biodynamic ‘Richmond Plains' vineyard hand-picked on Flower days on the biodynamic calendar. Pressings with colour separated and blended with Rosé wine, 5% fermented in old oak to 13.8% alc. and 7.0 g/L rs. Bright, very pale, faded pink colour, pale on rim. This has an aromatic, lifted nose with delicate strawberry notes along with subtle yellow stonefruit notes. Off-dry to taste, this is a bright and lively wine with restrained strawberry and peach fruit flavours that grow in intensity and substance in the glass. A light textural thread provides a little grip, structure and body, and fresh acidity enhances the sweetness of the fruit to match the mouthfeel. This is a wine with the fruit and firmness to match charcuterie and rich poultry or poultry dishes over the next 2+ years. “ 17.5+/20, Raymond Chan, Oct 2012
