Vibrant pinkish, rose gold colour, reflective of the limited time the juice soaked on the grape skins. The aromas evoke strawberry, sour cherry and attractive sweet spice. Fresh flavours of strawberries and kanzi apple.
Tasting Notes for Pig In The House Rose 2023 from the Winery
The Pig in the House Organic Rosé is made from Sangiovese with the slightest addition of Shiraz. Stylistically we are aiming to capture the varietal characters. Flavour wise, this was achieve at around 11.7 baume when the berries where showing vibrant red fruit favours.
The wine is made solely from free run juice and treated as an aromatic white in order to highlight the crisp, berry flavours. We fermented a small portion of the wine in older, seasoned oak in order to build some complexity and texture.
The wine was then blended with a touch (0.6%) of Shiraz which adding subtle complexity and underscoring the beautiful natural salmon pink colour.
About Pig In The House
Pig in The House wines are grown and made in Cowra New South Wales. We believe that our organic farming practices produce wines which are unique to our region. We planted vineyard in the mid 1990s on land which was once a free-range piggery; so free that the pigs were often in the house. The locals still ask whether the pig is still in the house. Most of the time the answer is no.

9.1/10 POINTS, The Daily Examiner, Max Crus, Jan 2020 91 POINTS
"Bright, pale-pink colour. A true mix of red berries on the nose: strawberries and sour cherries, raspberries and a faint whiff of oak. A compelling, textural palate - oak has softened edges. It's just-ripe and better for it, sour cherries mix with dried herbs. Skilled winemaking"
THE REAL REVIEW, Nick Butler
"Pale purple-pink colour; the aroma light and wispy, shy but fragrant, with rose petal and raspberry nuances. The wine is light-bodied but has good intensity, although the finish is pleasantly dry thanks to low sweetness and high tannin/acid cleansing effect... a worthy wine"
THE REAL REVIEW, Huon Hooke 91 POINTS
"Crowd-pleasing appeal and then some. Organic Rosé bringing happiness with ease. Pale salmon in appearance, there's a riot of red cherries, red berries and pomegranate. A creamy texture adds mid-palate interest with a fine spice whipping up the tail. Moreish and ready to eat up your lunchtime hangs. Drink now."
QWINE, Nov 2019 91 POINTS
"Strawberry, rose petal, Turkish Delight. Musky hints, veering to savoury nuances on the palate. Drying, but long on flavour, the musk and savoury elements delivering on the length. Good Rosé. Enough about it to refresh, complex enough to interest. Solid."
THE VINSOMNIAC, Nov 2019
"...This has everything going for it and is bound to be a winner. It’s organic with plenty of flavour, there’s freshness, it’s perfectly food friendly and easy drinkability. Let’s not forget the attractive price! Let’s hope this is bottled every year…please!! ..."
WORDS FROM A WINEGLASS 89 POINTS
'Light salmon to pink hue in the glass, a pretty nose with floral red cherry, a thread of citrus and pleasing creaminess. A plush generously fruited with that enjoys summer berries against a backdrop of lemon zest on the mid palate before a softer, supple finish that is more about strawberries and cream."
WINEREVIEWER.COM.AU, Feb 2020
"This 2019 Organic rose from the team of vigneron Jason O'Dea and winemaker Anthony D'Onise reflects their minimalist protocol of allowing the varietal attributes of the grapes to express themselves. The attractive salmon-pink colour leads to a restrained nose of raspberries and cherries. However, the initial shyness of the aromas soon opens up on breathing. The upfront perception of tingly sweetness is amply supported by a well-massaged framework of clean, tingly acid, some minerality and oak-derived astringency. The small component of Shiraz contributes some mid-palate grip and textural interest. This all leads to a refreshing, palate-pleasing rose of some complexity which should be enjoyed whilst fresh and lively. A timely release for the incoming heat of summer."
THE GRAPE HUNTER, Nov 2019
"... It is fresh and dry, and undoubtedly suited to the Australian summer lifestyle. Try is with a bowl of pasta, a slab of pizza or a salad and see what the southern Europeans are on about."
PS NEWS, JOHN ROZENTALS, Dec 2019
"...it has a great light salmon colour which would be seen in the south of France. Aromatically I think of raspberries and cream when smelling after a soft swirl. On the palate the wine is dry, with red fruits dominant, pleasingly the wine is naturally soft in the mouth which makes it a wonderful drink during most times of the year."
HAVE A GO NEWS, FRANK SMITH, Feb 2020
"Life today is dominated by COVID-19 gloom but here's a little wine label levity. Winemakers have long had fun with names that grab buyers' attention with labels like Shirazamataz, Doctor's Nose, Mad Hatter, Fat Bastard and Galvo Garage. This organic sangiovese rosé comes from within the Windowrie group in Cowra Region's Canowindra area. The name harks back to 1996 when winemaker Jason O'Dea and wife Rebecca moved onto a former pig farm and had to evict 20 free-range pigs from the house. This 13% alcohol rosé is blush pink, jelly bean-scented and has a raspberry front-palate flavour. The middle palate shows red apple, blueberry and flint and the finish slatey acid."
