A ruby red Pinot Noir with medium body, a balance of lifted, vibrant fruit flavours, and savoury earthiness. Sweet red-blood plum and sour cherry jump out of the glass, bursting with energy, whilst more grounded flavours like cinnamon, essence of spicy turmeric and crunchy tannins work to bring this together as tightly woven package.

“Made to be a drink now fruit-in-you-glass pinot, but will mature nicely with some age."
Erinn Klein, Winemaker

NGERINGA UNCULTURED Pinot Noir 2018

For years our philosophy has been to work with in the winery, adding sulphur to the wines as late as possible in the winemaking process, usually just before bottling to allow a natural evolution of the wines during elevage in barrel.

VINTAGE NOTES
The winter and spring of 2017 leading up our 2018 harvest were drier and warmer than average with a relative early bud burst and flowering and not a lot of water reserves in the soil. Our vines required supplementary irrigation from first week of January to moderate vine stress due to a hot dry summer that continued right up to vintage. Our yields for most varieties were above average with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay producing at just over a kilogram per vine, while our Syrah was on average just on target with 1kg per plant.

TASTING NOTES
A ruby red Pinot Noir with medium body, a balance of lifted, vibrant fruit flavours, and savoury earthiness. Sweet red-blood plum and sour cherry jump out of the glass, bursting with energy, whilst more grounded flavours like cinnamon, essence of spicy turmeric and crunchy tannins work to bring this together as tightly woven package.

WINEMAKING NOTES
The grapes are gently hand-harvested and processed using 100% carbonic maceration, which allows for fermentation of the whole berries, meaning that they remain intact without crushing or removal of stems. The fruit is then left to steep for seven days before pressing into small seasoned French barrels, for eleven months of maturation. Our Uncultured Pinot Noir 2018 is lovingly estate bottled under screw cap, with a minimal addition of sulphur to prevent oxidation.

VINEYARD
Ngeringa Estate’s Uncultured Pinot Noir is made from solely estate-grown fruit, from our steep easterly facing Summit vineyard slope, sitting 360m above sea level, with a direct line of sight to Lake Alexandrina and the Murray mouth, consequently receiving cooling evening breezes which do much to preserve our fruit acids and flavours through the critical weeks of ripening.
