The Story

WINEMAKING & VITICULTURE: This is a single vineyard wine from grapes grown organically at Muddy Water Vineyard. All blocks are tended to entirely by hand and hand selected while the fruit is cold in the mornings over harvest. The soils are clay dominant and very little irrigation is used over the growing season, providing fruit with structure and concentration.

All batches are hand sorted after hand picking, before a “hands- off” approach to the winemaking. Natural fermentation begins after around 5 days of cold maceration, reaching temperature peaks of 32 degrees. Fermenters are gently plunged twice a day before being pressed to French barrels (30%new) for ageing over the following year. This wine was bottled without fining and will reward cellaring, showing increased complexity out to 2020.

“ Fruit from the ‘Muddy Water' vineyard, hand-picked and given a cold soak, then indigenous yeast fermented to 14.0% alc. with approx 7.5% whole bunches, the wine aged 16 months in 30% new French oak barrels. Dark, deep, purple-ruby colour, youthful in appearance. Fresh, intense, primary aromas of raspberry liqueur intermingle with fresh herb and whole bunch elements, the oaking in good balance, the aromatics still very youthful. Full-bodied, this is robustly rich with packed flavours of raspberry essence along with fresh dark herbs and luscious, spicy red berry fruits and savoury elements. This is mouthfilling and fulsome, combining fleshiness and open tannins, all enlivened by lacy acidity. The juicy raspberry flavours are supported by rounded tannins and are long and lingering on the finish. This is a sweet-fruited, robust, but accessible Pinot Noir to serve with Mediterranean and Middle Eastern fare over the next 4-6 years. Certified AsureQuality organic.
