Winery/Brand: Muddy Water
Deep garnet in colour, the nose exudes cherry, earth and spice, and maybe a touch of minitness. The palate is full of flavour with lifted fruit and some tasty oak, held together well by the thread of acid and finishing with chalky tannins.
The Story
A combination of vineyard blocks, with a mix of 8 clones compromising clay on the flats and clay over limestone on the slopes. Decluttering of shoots ensures ripe and expressive fruit. All of the fruit is handpicked early mornings over harvest.
Fermented with indigenous yeast, our small fermenters are hand plunged 3x daily before a gentle pressing to French oak barrels (30%) for 16 months ageing. This Pinot is an expression of the 2010 growing season – low yielding yet intensely flavoured fruit.
