Tasting Notes for Hochkirch Riesling Near Pipers 2024 from the Winery

Hochkirch ‘Near Pipers’ Riesling 2024 is a beautifully crafted wine from Victoria, picked from a northwest-facing block and wild-fermented before maturation in old puncheons on the lees. Expect a pale yellow colour with sweet lemon and citrus aromas, a hint of wet stone, and classic varietal purity. The palate is lively and dry, balancing ripe, succulent fruit over a backbone of refreshing acidity, with a subtle phenolic edge that adds texture and interest. It’s engaging, distinctive and will pair well with fresh seafood or lighter fare.

Hochkirch

Hochkirch vineyard lies on a north facing slope 250 m. above sea level along an elevated plateau running southwest from Dunkeld at the foot of the Grampians in far south west Victoria. The vines high-density and are dry farmed (no irrigation) and no synthetic fungicides, pesticides or fertilisers are used. Long slow fermentation, natural yeasts, no filtration, minimal intervention and additives. 1.5 Hectares of Riesling certified Biodynamic by Demeter.
