The 2011 vintage is salmon pink in colour, with inviting aromas of strawberries and rose petal. The palate is lively with with good mousse and bead, lots of berry fruit and a touch of creaminess. It finishes fresh and dry.
The Story
As for the Vintage Chardonnay, the grapes for this wine (approx 80% shiraz and 20% Mourverdre) are picked early, for natural acidity. They are pressed and chilled immediately for a clean ferment, then fermented under pressure into natural sparkling wine using the Charmat method.
The acid-sugar balance is similar to the Vintage Chardonnay, but the flavour profile is more floral.
The label features an original painting by Florence Statham of a platypus. This is a symbol of the resilience of the Belubula River, as they miraculously survive long periods of drought and dry river bed.
The wine has been well received by consumers and press, with the the 2009 vintage winning Four Stars in 2010 Winestate Magazine, with the comments: “Very pretty, bright pink wine smelling of lollies, spices and berries. Fresh and creamy palate with lots of berry fruit flavours and plenty of ‘fizz’.”
Master of Wine, Rob Geddes, reviewed the 2009: “As clean as a whistle, aromatic and vibrant with bright berry fruit flavours, lively bubbles, a persistent bead and a clean finish” (4/3/2010)
