Ross and Derice McDonald established Macquariedale Estate in 1993 with a purchase of land and a passion to produce outstanding Hunter varietal wines. Macquariedale Estate is located in the Lower Hunter on a site guarded by the maternal Brokenback Range. With stunning outlooks towards the picturesque Barrington Tops, the Brokenbacks themselves and the meandering Hunter River, the Estate enjoys the very best of aspects.
The Estate grows both the traditional Hunter Varieties of Shiraz, Semillon, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay as well as the more contemporary variety of Merlot. Wines of intense flavour and distinct estate characters are produced.
"Our objective is to produce the estate grapes using the biodynamic principles espoused by Rudolph Steiner. As from January 2005 we are now certified "in conversion" by the Australian Certified Organic Group (ACO) a subsidiary of the Biological Farmer's Association (FBA). Our vintages 2003/4 were grown organically prior to certification."
