Kancoona Valley Vineyard is situated in an idyllic & pristine setting high in the Alpine Valleys region in a natural amphitheatre. It is halfway between Myrtleford and Mount Beauty and 12 kilometres from the Kiewa River. It was established by Joseph and Lena Birti in 1989 who are continuing a centuries old family tradition of grapegrowing & winemaking in Northern Italy. This unique location features red mountain soils of low fertility that results in a small crop fruit with intense colour & flavour. A drying thermal breeze from the Kiewa River valley helps to keep the vines free of fungal diseases. The grapes are handpicked and the wine is handcrafted by using traditional winemaking techniques. Maturation in oak barriques rounds out the flavours.
