Quite different to the 2015 vintage (you can definitely tell they’re related though!), this wine has more of a fresh and young attitude. It's another glorious looking, richly purple, wine, the initial aromas are of musk and fresh raspberry with a tickle of white pepper.

In the mouth there are some fine tannins and to taste there is an initial red fruit sweetness, just when you think 'this can't be Tempranillo!' the sweetness melts away, making room for the more savoury profile that we expect from the Spanish varietal.

With a mouth-filling fruity hit, and the meaty follow through, this is the perfect wine to share with friends while you eat jamon, white anchovies and salty green olives with sheep's cheese and crusty bread. Cheaper than a trip to Barcelona for sure, and perhaps just as satisfying!

With the Mudgee wine region having similar climatic conditions to the Rioja region in Northern Spain (a long and generally dry growing season with cool nights and loads of sunshine), Tony and Debbie McKendry from Vinifera Wines went on an inspired journey into the world of Spanish wine.  Their vineyards now boast a host of ‘romantic-red wine’ varietals, including Tempranillo, Grenache, Graciano and Montastrell.
