Winery/Brand: Martins Hill

The Pinot Noir is planted on the steepest section of Martins Hill to avoid late Spring frosts. The wine has a rich varietal nose and a firm palate reflecting the quality of the 17 year old vines. The use of old oak gives the wine a fine balance between wood and pinot fruit flavours.

The Story

A prolonged drought of eight months without any significant rain, made 2007 vintage low yielding. However, careful hand working of the vines sparing water addition has produced excellent fruit quality. The grapes were hand picked by our small regular crew, starting at dawn February 1st, followed by commencement of open fermentation the same day. Limited time in Oak has brought the distinctive varietal Pinot nose and palate to the fore.
