The wine is a gorgeous cherry red colour, and the aroma is all fresh grape juice, tobacco and warming spice. To taste there is a good tannin profile, with blackcurrant flavours and warming spice - think cinnamon. Although a blend of this nature can generally be called 'rustic', we think that the oh-so-smooth mouth feel makes this wine just a little bit on the special side.

The dry, medium weight lightness of this wine means it will go well with most foods. It is a perfect accompaniment to a picnic with cured meats, cheeses and a crusty loaf of ciabatta, or a pasta dish.

La Cantina Dry Red

A winery built from the granite rocks of the King Valley in the style of a Tuscan villa, the Corsini family have been producing wines using family traditions and techniques for years. To preserve the character and flavour of their cool climate grapes, no preservatives are added, and no filtration of the wines takes place.

A new, and very welcome Italian style wine, La Cantina Dry Red is a lighter wine, which Peter and Gino Corsini (a father and son team) assure us is a perfect every day drinking red...and we happen to agree whole heartedly.  It is a blended from pressings of all of the red varietal grapes grown by the Corsini family (these include the distinctly 'European' grapes Nebbiolo, Barbera, Tempranillo, Sangiovese, and Saperavi - which are rather the fashion at the moment and are worth seeking out).

It doesn't get much more 'bespoke' than this wine. The Corsini's only bottle a few pallets of wine at a time, to preserve its freshness.  It's always a good idea to let a wine settle into the bottle for a while, so we've hung onto our stock for some weeks, it's now good to go!
