Winery/Brand: Krinklewood

The wine is pale straw in colour and displays aromas of stone fruits and citrus. It has a rich palate of fresh lively fruit, well integrated with the subtle nuttiness of the oak. Krinklewood vineyard is located in the Southern end of the Broke-Fordwich Valley and is well suited to Chardonnay. This is a much cooler part of the Hunter Valley. As a result the chardonnay fruit picked is more of a cooler climate style and exhibits vibrant grapefruit and stone fruit characters.

The Story

FRUIT: This chardonnay fruit was harvested early and is of high quality, a reflection we believe of our ongoing commitment to biodynamic viticulture.

WINEMAKING: In line with previous vintages of Chardonnay, this fruit was picked at optimum ripeness in the cool of the night. Of the free-run juice, a portion was fermented in French Troncais barriques. A small component also underwent wild ferment adding to the wines complexity. The wine was left on lees for 10 months with regular stirring, before final blending and bottling.

CUISINE: This wine is the perfect accompaniment to seared Atlantic Salmon.

Grape Variety: 100% Verdelho

'…A very strong performer was Krinklewood biodynamic Vineyard in the Hunter Valley. The big standouts were the gold medal-winning 2009 Chardonnay, with its youthful, oak wrapped, white nectarine fruit with great purity and line, and the Silver winning 2010 Francesca Rosé, with lovely brightness and perfumed minerality. For what it’s worth, I thought the 2010 Krinklewood Semillon was a ripper too, thrilling dew-fresh, delicately fennel scented…. '. Max Allen » Gourmet Traveller Wine Green Gauge » Oct 2010

‘2009 KRINKLEWOOD CHARDONNAY: Creamy pear and peach, nuts and sweet mixed citrus mingle in this well rounded, medium bodied Chardonnay. Enjoy the interplay of creamy almond meal and bright tangy, slightly edgy acidity. There’s even a little flintiness on the finish. Fruit driven, composed and clean. Good flavour and drinkability. All up all round good wine.‘ Rated : 91 Points >> Gary Walsh THE WINE FRONT www.winefront.com.au
