Winery/Brand: Jasper Hill

“ Plush, dense aromas of plum, clove and black cherry and sweet Asian spices with a twist of red wine vinegar lurking in the background. A very rich, impenetrable palate, the glycerol-like fruit and weighty ripe tannins are finely integrated, and the finish is long and ends on a savoury, roasted note.” Divine Magazine, Aust, Nov-Jan 2005.

The Story

The un-irrigated, low vigour Georgia's Paddock is planted with 12 hectares of Shiraz. After vinification the wine is matured for 14 months in new (around 20%) and old French and American oak. Georgia's Paddock is packaged with a red label, a reminder of a devastating bush fire in 1987.

Deep ruby. Flamboyantly aromatic nose displays sexy oak spices, pungent floral notes, black cherry and licorice. Incisive and focused, with flavors of kirsch, Valrhona chocolate, violet pastille, black olive, mocha and freshly cracked pepper. Firmly structured, concentrated shiraz, finishing with chewy texture and strong but harmonious tannins.

Ron Laughton grew an intense shiraz from the red Cambrian soils of Georgia’s Paddock in ’03. The floral perfume brings wisteria to mind, as purple as the wine’s color. Firm, black cherry flavors make up its core, with a touch of raisins in the end that adds to the blackness of the fruit. Cellar it to let the expression of the site develop in the wine.
