All Gemstone Wines are made from 100% organic fruit that we have sourced from around the best wine-growing neighbourhoods of South Australia.

Winemaking

The Gemstone wines all have purity and brightness, which is a reflection of the vineyards. A simple winemaking approach was taken with the Merlot. Fermented in open fermenters for 7 days with gentle pumping over and plunging until we felt the tannins were integrated. Pressed into barrels for aging for just 12 months and then bottled without filtration or fining.

Vintage Notes

The 2015 to 2016 growing season was dominated by warm and dry conditions; this corresponded to a quick, condensed flowering period. The summer period provided milder conditions, which lead to gradual sugar accumulation and allowed us to harvest purely on flavour ripeness. Literally we threw the hydrometer (measures sugar) away. The resulting 2016 wines are phenomenal! They are showing vibrant fruit flavours with bright natural acidity. A renewed focus for the winery has been minimal handling and digging out of our fermenters which has further accentuated the softness of our 2016 wines, letting them better express the vineyards from where they came.
