“ First impressions, the wine tasted like honey. The tastebuds reeled at the smooth, syrupy sensation. The flavour of tropical fruit, including peach and melon, made for a lively palate. The winemakers pride themselves in the use of organic farming methods (no fertilisers or herbicides) and the result is pure and pleasant. ”

The Story

Specially selected Organic certified vineyards in the Riverland and McLaren Vale of South Australia lend their fruit to this wine. Exceptional organic husbandry has produced ripe flavoursome fruit.

The 2011 Vintage was cool, drought breaking rains in spring lead to minimal requirement for irrigation, good crops being set and substantial canopies which would be needed to ripen the fruit to perfection. This cooler year has been great for aromatic varietal expression, especially with the fruit dominant varieties such as this Chardonnay. Longer than usual grape maturation resulted in a relatively late harvest starting in March.

Picked late at night to harvest the grapes as cold as possible the grapes were transported to the winery and pressed using modern membrane tank presses. After cold settling the clear juice was carefully racked to cooled fermentation tanks and inoculated with selected yeasts. Cool fermentation was followed by minimal handling filtration and bottling at the Angove Family’s Certified Organic winery.

“ This chardonnay reinforces Angove’s reputation for value. Melon and citrus aromas meet the nose; they’re attractive and varietally pure with no apparent oak. It tastes fresh and clean and is well balanced. ”
87 Points - The Age - Ralph Kyte-Powell - 13.08.13

“ A clean and vibrant young chardonnay sourced from organically managed vineyards. It has light stone fruit with a touch of cashew and cereal. The palate has lively medium-bodied fruit intensity with a zingy citrusy finish. Easy drinking in the short term. ”
